The solos are  extrememly hard.......etc.

Id recommend  'Cliffs of Dover' by Eric Johnson ... the intro/outro is FUN stuff.... the middle is just filler .

Tried any songs by WinterSun ? Killer arpeggio practice   Grin

I'm on a total System of a Down kick on guitars right now. People might say that Malakian's style is pretty limited and repetitive as fuck, but my response would be that a style is supposed to be repetitive as fuck.

For speed Maiden and Megadeth are good to start with.
For techniques I generally take a progression and jam on it after listening to a G3 or any other jam - try to make sure that I use legato, tapping, harmonics and everything else I know and I have heard of and so on do my guitar practice.
Guys I'm sure you'll get the "feel" once you try this out. Moreover, it also helps to add that extra bit of creativity in your consciousness.

This is lame.

Maybe poeople can adapt to new finger positining
but recommendations can be done in accordace to the genre we are working in .
I dun believe practising B.B. King, Shawn Lane, Larry Carlton,Michael Angelo, Albert Lee all at a time will do any help at all. Unless you change your genre,

Learning licks aren't bad but
Chosing a particular genre and moving into it, finding and exploring particular guitarists of it  , i believe is the trend and best for oneself

Trying some slow songs wouldn't do any harm at all. Try to perfect the bends, vibratos and slides- very tough things to do.
Shawn Lane- Maria is a very very good example of how beautiful a song can be when played slow.
